Traveling in Granada, Spain

Overlook of Granada, Spain

On my second day I decided to leave Malaga for some traveling in Granada, Spain and started out with a two hour bus ride. You may never know it unless you have been here but southern Spain is very mountainous which made the ride to Granada great (minus our crazy driver that seemed to want to see how fast he could take a turn without the bus actually flipping onto its side).

The Streets of Granada, Spain

Granada, Spain is a beautiful town and I quickly decided to spend more than a few days here. I arrived on a whim from Malaga with no initial intention to visit this city but with so many fellow travellers recommending it, I had to see what it was all about. The first day here was no picnic though. At first I was lost for quite some time trying to find my hostel and once found, my room flooded out about two hours after check in from the unit above mine so in came the contractors for the remaining day. To make things even more fun, the A/C unit was broken too which may not have bothered me too much but that night was the hottest it had been in Spain so far and I don’t think it got much lower than 85 degrees in the room until about 3AM – yay.

On the plus side, I found out that the bars and restaurants in Granada serve free Tapas every time you purchase a drink so I’ve been eating for free at almost every meal while I try out the local brews. I’ve also met some great people here including many locals, one of whom took a few of us to the local clubs and bars. As many of you know, its quite normal in Spain to start your night out around 11PM for dinner and to go out afterwards so I guess it should be no surprise that we didn’t leave the club we were in until 7AM while many were still in there carrying on. I think the funniest thing was the fact that our group made up the only foreigners in the place yet more American music was playing than anything else, some of it was even from the 80’s! (Picture 100s of Spaniards dancing to Michael Jackson). Oh, and even when leaving the club at 7AM, you can still find local street vendors open for food (think delicious Kebabs and Falafels)!

This post took about 4 hrs using 3 different computers as Wifi and keyboards are not the easiest to use here… Will update descriptions of photos soon with more to come!

Wow.. Beautiful scenery. What are some of the more distinctive buildings in Granada. I keep hearing that tune, “Granada” in my head as I write this.

Rory! Granada is one of my favorite places. Obviously you will hit the alhambra, but walk up into the hills above the albacin and check out the caves that people live in and go luxury on

Whats up KC! Yeah, Granada was great and I’m going to miss it for sure. I missed the Caves tour while I was there but I heard it was interesting to check out. I did hike to the top of the hills and managed to get some good photos from that area though.

    Rory,

I want to go back to the kite boarding for just a second. When I invented this sport, way back in the 1960’s, we only did this in shark infested areas that heightened the danger. Plus, we’d stick toothpicks in our fingernails to intensify the pain, especially if we wiped out. Yes, that’s right, and if we caught the right wind, there in the swimming pool, we might fly upwards to maybe 500 ft. before settling down the shark-infested pool. You, on the other hand, took the sissy route, having it easy. Come on Rory, be a man, you’re staying the the five-star hotels (though you don’t show any of the photos, oh no) and were lucky to get five feet off the water and attached by a cable which you were able to PhotoShop out.

Yes, I’m the uncle who will keep your story straight from now one. As a matter-of-fact, why don’t you go ahead and tell the fine people who are reading your blog that you’ve never even left Charlotte, but are camped out in your backyard, and spending your days in the library!

Haha, whats up Dave! Great to hear from you. It seems you’re enjoying my posts – all originating from the Charlotte library of course! So I want to see your photos too! Too funny…. I better keep my ‘stories’ straight from here on out with as many photoshopped pictures of myself in them as possible!
