Ok, maybe you would but you’d never find so many amazing landscapes in one place. Hopefully they’ll draw some inspiration for your future trips!

10 Unique Travel Destinations for Bucket List Inspiration

Mendenhall Ice Caves, Juneau, Alaska

Located just twelve miles from Juneau, Alaska the Mendenhall glacier offers visitors a chance to walk through the ice caves inside the glacier while getting the full effect of water’s freeze and thaw cycles.

Zhangjiajie National Park, China

Full of natural beauty, the Zhangjiajie National Park covers an area more than 150 square miles. You may recognize it from being featured in the movie, Avatar. Throughout the park, these amazing sandstone pillars rise to a height of 2,600 feet and the streams below add to the uniqueness of this area.

The Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giant’s Causeway was formed millions of years ago by an ancient volcano. Today it stands as a popular attraction to both locals and visitors and is truly amazing how nature produced such geometric beauty.

White Haven Beach in Whitsunday Island, Australia

Adding to this list of unique travel destinations, the sands of White Haven Beach are truly what makes it spectacular. As the tides shift throughout the day, the waters mix with the nearly pure silica sands creating an ever-changing landscape and mix of unique colors.

 The Taklamakan Desert in China

Close to its Gobi desert neighbor, the Taklamakan desert is located in China’s northwest section. As barren as it is, it could easily be mistaken for the sands of the Sahara. A unique sight to see in China, this desert holds fear in the heart of locals. The name ‘Takla Makan’ has also been referred to as ‘The Sea of Death’ (a great reminder when stocking up water and supplies!)

The Underwater River of Cenote Angelita, Mexico

Is there such a thing as an underwater river? Apparently there is and it’s located in Cenote Angelita, Mexico… Below the main river runs a deeper river flowing separately that is caused by the water being mixed with hydrogen sulfate. As it mixes with saltwater, it becomes heavier than the saltwater around it and sinks to the bottom creating a true underwater river. Truly an extraordinary natural phenomenon and a fantastic place to scuba dive…

Canola Flower Fields in China

Occurring every spring, the canola flowers located in Luoping Country come full bloom and bring with it a sea of bright yellow that completely engulfs the valleys surrounding the mountains. It is not too far from China’s popular city Kunming and has become quite a popular destination for those that know about it.

Göreme National Park in Cappadocia Turkey

As another UNESCO World Heritage site, the Göreme National Park is extremely unique for two main reasons… Its amazing formations were originally started by volcanic eruptions with the area being continually shaped and formed by erosion creating pillars as high as 125 feet. Later, using mother nature’s creation as a guide, it was inhabited 1000’s of years ago by a civilization that created additional caves, tunnels, and networks within the pillars as well as interconnected levels underneath much of the area.

Kelimutu Craters in Indonesia

Known as the Tri-Colored Crater Lakes, these three bodies of water were all formed by the same Kelimutu volcano yet each has its own distinct color. Each crater lake changes color on a continuous basis though they can usually be defined by the colors of red, green and blue between the three of them. If you go, don’t get too close to the edge of the rocks above. Many have fallen in over the years and the chemical reactions taking place within each of its waters is extremely unforgiving.

Pamukkale, Turkey

Another unique travel destination in Turkey, Pamukkale is an area that has been shaped by nature into terraced travertine shelves that were originally formed from hot springs. Today, the area is a hot spot for travelers in Turkey’s southwest region as people come to witness this exotic area and swim in its many thermal pools.
