Are You Living Life to the Fullest?

33 with so much life yet to live…. I couldn’t help but write this post after what had happened. It was about 5:15AM. I had just arrived to the gym (Yes, I’m an early riser for those that didn’t know). A friend was there with me on that Monday morning and we had learned of the news that had happened just 3 days prior….

For most of the past 15 years of my life, especially the past 10, I’ve always held that thought of ‘what if’… What if I lived my life and never achieved any of my goals? What if I never realized any of my dreams? What if I had never turned my dream of traveling the world into reality? Would I regret it in my elder years? What if I never made it to my elder years?

How to Live Life to the Fullest

I think all of us recognize that we are not here forever and some of us may even realize this. But I think only the lucky few recognize this on a daily basis. Why do I consider them lucky? Well, when you know your time is limited, you don’t waste it. You don’t put things off, especially the things in life that matter to you most… like your dreams and aspirations.

The thing that scares me the most is not screwing up… instead, it’s never being able to do something I’ve always wanted to do before I die. Of course, we never want to think about dying but its there. It is always there. Its just that we get reminded of this fact when crazy things creep up on us and all of sudden get thrown in our face. We step back. Thinking and reflecting. All of a sudden looking at life in a whole new perspective. I did. And I don’t want to let go of that feeling.

I want to be one of the lucky ones in life that never forgets the fact that we are mortal

That we must absolutely make the best of each and every day. If you have a dream, go after it. And don’t put it off. There are no guarantees in life. There is no guarantee for tomorrow.

Getting back to my story:

…Standing there in the gym that Monday morning, still half asleep and trying to get my bearings, I had just learned that one of the guys that worked out among us had just passed away. It was on Friday, just 3 short days ago. He was 33, in excellent shape and it gives me chills just thinking about the fact that he was literally standing in front of me last week and now is gone. Turns out he was actually at this same gym on that fateful Friday, had a sudden stroke and died within a couple hours later at the hospital. He leaves behind a wife and daughter. Both of whom he’ll never see again.

Do you think he had some dreams in life? Did he have any idea what would happen to him that morning? Of course not, none of us do. Life and death is all around us.

We cannot wait for tomorrow to do things in life we want to do

Thinking there will always be tomorrow can quickly develop into the disease of ‘Someday’. Well my friends, for him, someday was taken away. So tragic I know. So sudden and also so unexpected. All I could think was, “He was younger than me. This could happen to me. This could happen to any of us.”

Hopefully this post will help to inspire you, not depress you! Life is short, sometimes really short. Don’t put off the things you love, the things you want to do. Living life like it’s your last day means living life with no regrets. Always remember, its not the mistakes we’ve made that we regret in life, it’s the opportunities we missed and never took. Look for those opportunities, capitalize on them and forget about the mistakes you make along the way. Life is too short not to take some chances.

Always remember to live life to the fullest

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.”
