“Travel Now, not Some Day” – 7 Excuses we tell Ourselves

Travel Now, not Some Day

Travel Now, not Some Day

Most everyone has dreams and aspirations to travel the world and check off the items on their bucket list…

We read books like “1000 Places to See Before you Die” and other inspiring books to help us fulfill our travel dreams. We jealously read articles about others that are living out their dreams and meet people in our daily lives that have taken those amazing trips that we ourselves yearn to take. And we tell ourselves that one day we will also go. But how many of us actually make it happen? How many of us have a plan for the when and where? The specific time and day that we will travel to these places and experience those amazing things that have been sitting idly in the back of our minds?

All too often we get caught up in the present day to day routine. That which is important to us (but not urgent) gets pushed down, held back and put on the “someday “shelf. We feel guilty for wanting to take these trips or taking vacation from our jobs. But Why? Why not travel now?

From somebody who has been there and done that, I can tell you there is no greater feeling than to say “No more… I will make it happen and I will travel to places I want to go and see the things I want to see”. And then follow through and take action. Unfortunately there truly isn’t a best time to go just like there’s never a best time to quit a bad habit. As Tim Ferris states, “Some day is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you.” That advice couldn’t be any further from the truth and my advice to you is to not put anything off even a day longer than is needed. Make a plan and turn your travel dreams into reality sooner than later!

You never know what will happen to you in life. Where you will be financially a year or two from now. Where you’ll be physically in your later years or whether you’ll even be around in a decade. My goal here is not be morbid or depressing in any way. However the reality is people put their dreams on a shelf and for many, things just never transpire. Someday never comes. It’s why we need to travel now. We keep feeding ourselves excuse after excuse on why it’s better to delay the trip. If I can be a source of inspiration and motivation here, I will tell you that there is power in making a decision and making a plan for going after what you want. As cliche as it sounds, you truly only live once and there are no guarantees in life. If you want to travel somewhere, make a plan, set a date and buy that ticket now because someday may never come…

Waiting until retirement? Who is say you’ll even be in the kind of shape you want to be in when that time comes? If you’re anything like me and want to be active during your travels, I can tell you, it’s going to be a lot better to travel to certain places when you’re younger and active instead of in your 70’s!

7 Things we tell ourselves on why we can’t Travel Now:

I don’t have the time

I don’t have the money

I don’t have someone to go with

I don’t speak multiple languages

I don’t know what to expect

I’m too old

I’m too young

I’m too _________….

 Travel Now Not Some Day!

“Don’t think about it too much. If you think about it too much, you’ll just end up staying home. … My family and friends often say to me, ‘I’m living vicariously through you.’ Don’t ever live vicariously. This is YOUR life. Live.”
